Age Difference Calculator.
Enter two dates of birth to instantly see the age gap in years, months, weeks, and days. Find out who is older and by exactly how much.
Exact Calendar Arithmetic
This calculator uses day-by-day date arithmetic accounting for leap years and variable month lengths. The difference is calculated from birth date to birth date, not just birth year to birth year — so the result is always precise.
Multiple Units at Once
Results show years+months, total weeks, and total days simultaneously. Useful for relationship age gaps, comparing sibling ages, or any scenario where you need more than just "5 years older."
Age Difference Calculation Methodology.
The Calculation Branch
Industrial Standards.
The calculator parses both birth dates into Carbon date objects, then uses diffInDays, diffInMonths, and diffInYears to produce exact counts. The 'older person' determination compares the two Carbon dates directly — the earlier date is the older person.
In-Depth Analysis & Reference Data
The most common source of confusion is how to count partial years. If Person A was born March 1, 1990 and Person B on June 1, 1995, is the difference 5 years or 5 years and 3 months? The answer depends on the reference date. This calculator always computes the difference between the two birth dates themselves — not from today's date — so it reflects the absolute age gap rather than how old each person currently is.
Registry Questions & FAQ.
Does the order of dates matter?
No. The calculator takes the absolute difference regardless of which date you enter first. It will identify which person is older and display the result accordingly.
Can I use it for non-people date differences?
Yes. Any two calendar dates work. You could compare the founding dates of two companies, the gap between two historical events, or any other date pair where you want a precise difference in years, months, and days.
